Roberts Wesleyan Men and Women Earn Three-Peat at ECC Cross Country Championships

Rochester, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan's men's and women's teams clinched a three-peat in front of the home crowd in Rochester, N.Y., at the East Coast Conference Cross Country Championships Saturday morning.

In the men's race, Roberts Wesleyan dominated, earning 16 points, while runner-up, St. Thomas Aquinas, had 66. The Redhawks had seven All-Conference runners, including Keith Pease, who crossed the line in first place in a time of 25:57.4 to earn the ECC Runner of the Year award.

Roberts also had five of the first six runners to cross the finish line, with Matthew Watson (second - 26:01.9), Aaron Bellomo (third - 26:02.1), Josiah Ottolini (fourth - 26:19.5), and Christopher Sims (sixth - 26:25.6) all earning First Team All-Conference honors. Ottolini also took home Rookie of the Year honors as the first freshman across the finish line on the day.

Anthony Casullo (eighth - 26:38.3) and Justin Shaffer (13th - 27:18.7) wrapped up Roberts Wesleyan's All-Conference honorees with Second Team selections.

The women's race was tighter than the men's but was still a comfortable win for the Redhawks. In a race that saw the top-five teams finish in the same order as the 2015 Championship, Roberts Wesleyan defeated runner-up, Daemen, by a 31-48 margin. St. Thomas Aquinas rounded out the top three with 82 points.

Elizabeth Valento was the Redhawks' top finisher for the second straight year with a second consecutive third place finish in a time of 18:21.8. Valento was joined on the First Team by teammates Rachel Hutchinson (fifth - 18:34.9) and Emily Betts (18:43.3).

Roberts Wesleyan had five All-Conference runners in total, with Megha Singh (eighth - 19:08.0)  and Makenzie Widder (ninth - 19:11.5) earning spots on the Second Team. Singh was the first freshman to finish the race, also earning her Rookie of the Year honors.

Roberts Wesleyan's Co-Head Coaches Andrew and Jennifer Dorr, were named the Men's and Women's ECC Coaches of the Year after leading the Redhawks to a first place finish in each race. This is the fourth consecutive year the pair has won the honor for both genders and the fifth straight year in the women's race.

Talya Williams of LIU Post earned the ECC Runner of the Year honors for the second time in her career. She led all finishers in covering the 5K course in 17:42.7, 27 seconds faster than the runner-up. Williams also won the honor at the 2014 Championship, which was also on Roberts Wesleyan's course.
