Rochester, N.Y. – Host institution,
Roberts Wesleyan captured both the ECC Men's and Women's Cross
Country Championships on Saturday afternoon. This marks the first
ECC Championships in school history for Roberts Wesleyan, who
became full NCAA Division II members prior to the current academic
year.
In the first race of the day, Roberts Wesleyans men's team had
four All-Conference First Team runners led by Kevin Brown with a
third place finish after covering the 8K course in 25:51.7. Thomas
Rodger (fourth - 25:52.2), Justin Bender (fifth - 25:55.8), and
Matthew Watson (seventh - 26:04.0) were the other Redhawk runners
to earn All-Conference First Team honors. Roberts also had two
Second Team All-Conference runners, Keith Pease (ninth - 26:26.3)
and Aaron Bellomo (13th - 26:47.8), to finish with a total team
score of 29 points.
In the women's race, the Redhawks dominated the 5K field with 25
points. Like the men's race, Roberts had four runners earn
All-Conference First Team honors, led by third place finisher
Rachel Prutsman (18:33.8). Megan Hulton (fourth - 18:34.2), Rachel
Hust (fifth - 18:39.4), and Rachel Hutchinson (18:44.0) were the
other Redhawks to earn First Team laurels. Brittany Ward also
earned Second Team honors by crossing the line in a time of 19:40.1
to finish 14th.
Roberts Wesleyan's Co-Head Coaches Andrew and Jennifer Dorr, were
named the Men's and Women's ECC Coaches of the Year after leading
the Redhawks to a first place finish in each race. This is the
second consecutive year the pair has won the honor for both genders
and the third consecutive year in the women's race.
Scott Litts of Dowling College earned the ECC Men's Runner of the
Year award after being the first to cross the finish line in a time
of 25:31.7. His time was less than a second better than runner-up,
Michael Scott of LIU Post.
Thomas Flynn of LIU Post finished 14th to earn Men's Rookie of the
Year honors. Flynn finished with a time of 26:55.8.
Talya Williams of LIU Post earned both the ECC Women's Runner and
Rookie of the Year honors as she led all finishers in covering the
5K course in 18:23.7.
