Queens' Avila Qualifies for NCAA Championships with Fifth-Place Showing at Regionals

BOSTON – Queens College senior standout, Indira Avila placed fifth out of 183 runners in the 6,000-meter, NCAA Division II East Regional Women's Cross Country Championships, Sunday afternoon at Franklin Park.

With her 22:57.3 time, Avila (Hicksville, N.Y.) has now qualified for the NCAA Division II Women's Cross Country Championships - which will take place Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. (Eastern) in Spokane, Wash.

The Knights placed 20th out of 27 scoring teams at the meet, with senior Stephanie Pere (Staten Island, N.Y.) scoring 111th with a time of 26:13.4. Freshman Miriam Gonzalez (Woodside, N.Y.) checked in with a time of 29:28.3, while senior Cher Armstrong (Riverhead, N.Y.) and freshman Bernadette Gruol (Merrick, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in times of 30:27.3 and 31:12.7, respectively.
