Mercy's Head Track and Field/Cross Country Coach Dr. Darryl Bullock Announces Retirement
Aug 4, 2009

DOBBS FERRY, NY - After 33 years with the cross country program and seven years with the track and field squads, Dr. Darryl Bullock announced his retirement today as head coach at Mercy College.   Dr. Bullock will remain on staff as the department's full-time business manager and assistant director of athletics.

"I am appreciative of the opportunity to serve the young men and women who've donned the Blue and White of Mercy College during my tenure," Bullock said. "An outstanding class is coming in this fall and I look forward to cheering from the stands or sidelines in support of their efforts. As I look ahead, I'm reminded of some words shared by Fr. Hesburgh (Notre Dame) when he said, "The very essence of leadership is that you have to have a vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet". Let the sounds in your heart announce your presence."

"We are so grateful to Dr. Bullock for all he has given to the Mercy College track and field, and cross country programs over the years," said Pat Kennedy, Mercy College Director of Athletics. "He has touched so many lives during his tenure and has built a highly respected program.  We want to express our sincere thanks to Dr. Bullock for his dedication to the student-athletes of Mercy College."

Dr. Bullock began the cross country program at Mercy College in 1976. During his career he saw teams compete in more than 20 NCAA Division II regional championships, had a pair of male student-athletes capture conference championships, and trained numerous All-Conference runners.

Dr. Bullock became coach of the College's track and field teams in 2002. He began with a distance base from the cross country teams and has since built the program to include a corps of talented sprinters and jumpers. In recent years, Bullock has recruited and developed numerous record setters. Dr. Bullock also coached track and field at neighboring Our Lady of Victory Academy for five years where his teams compiled a 31-5 record, including four conference titles.

Dr. Bullock was named Business Manager in September of 2007, after serving the College in many capacities, including Assistant to the Athletics Director, Registrar and Director of Planning & Institutional Research. In his current capacity he is responsible for budget development and review, is the point person for all NCAA survey and study requests, and he continues to be involved as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor.
