
Bronx, N.Y. – The NYIT men’s cross country team
captured its first East Coast Conference championship with a low
score of 30 points Sunday morning at Van Cortlandt Park in the
Bronx, N.Y.
NYIT placed four runners in the top seven and five in the top 12
for 30 points, edging runner up Adelphi, which posted 37 points,
and third place New Haven, which posted 76 points.
Evans Kigen paced the Bears to the team title, capturing the 8k
distance in 26:23, edging runner up Matt Dispensa of Adelphi, who
finished in 27:12.
First Team All Conference winners included Kigen, Dispensa, Ryan
Pezzulo of Adelphi, Frank DeStefano of NYIT, James Beaubrun of New
Haven, Hill Kiprop-Kerras of NYIT, and Kadioan Turner of NYIT.
Pezzulo earned Rookie of the Year honors as the top newcomer,
placing third in 27:23.
The All Conference Second Team, consisting of the 8th through 14th
place finishers, included Carlos Techera of Adelphi, Mike Marrone
of Dowling, Mike Dorman of Adelphi, David Chiapperino of New Haven,
Christopher Banton of NYIT, Patrick Leach of New Haven, and Tome
Eickelberg of Adelphi.
Van Holt of NYIT earned Coach of the Year accolades.
