Bridgeport Advances to NCAA East Regional Semifinals with Four-Set Win Over Georgian Court

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team advanced to the semifinal round of the 2019 NCAA Division II East Regional being hosted by Molloy College in Rockville Centre, N.Y. on Thursday afternoon with a four-set victory over the Lions of Georgian Court University, 25-18, 22-25, 25-12, 25-17. 

With the win, UB, the number three seed, will advance to play on Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. against the seven seeded Holly Family University, as HFU upset number-two seed Bentley University in four sets.  Bridgeport is now 25-7 overall, and the Lions finish an impressive 2019 season at 30-7.

UB is now a perfect 9-0 in NCAA opening round matches.

The Purple Knights used an extremely balanced offensive attack in Thursday's win, as four players reached double-digit kills led by senior Emily Burford (Albuquerque, N.M.) with 12 kills.  Burford also hit .321 individually on the afternoon, and as a team, Bridgeport hit .260 in the match.

Senior Morgan Knight (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and sophomore Amanda Keller (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) each had 11 kills for the winners.  Keller was red-hot in the hitting department finishing with an impressive .409 attack percentage.

Senior Amanda Hennemann (Nova Petropolis, Brazil) notched a double-double for Bridgeport recording 10 kills and 10 digs.

The Purple Knights' setter combo of junior Klein Johnson (San Antonio, Texas) and Carly Killorin (Centennial, Colo.) were outstanding spread the ball around to their teammates and playing fine defense, as they each finished with a double-double, as Johnson had 24 assists and 14 digs and Killorin had 16 16 assists and 12 digs.

Sophomore Breanna Jones (Littleton, Colo.) led the UB defense with 20 digs and fell just shy of her own double-double with nine assists.

Shana Rayside led Georgian Court with 11 kills in the four sets.
