West Babylon, N.Y. – With regular season play now complete, the bracket for the East Coast Conference Volleyball Championship is set. Molloy College earned the right to host the four-team tournament for the second time in three seasons. The postseason action will take place on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23 at Quealy Gymnasium on Molloy's campus in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
Molloy became the first team with a perfect run through ECC play (23-4, 10-0 ECC) since 2014 to earn the tournament's top seed and hosting duties. The Lions won the program's only ECC title the last time the championship came to Rockville Centre in 2017. Molloy is also making their third straight championship appearance.
The Lions semifinal opponent is No. 4 Mercy (14-17, 5-5 ECC). The Mavericks, who are making their first appearance in the tournament since 2008, look to win their fourth ECC Championship and first since 2001.
Molloy ran its winning streak against Mercy to seven by sweeping the regular season series.
The other semifinal will see No. 2 Bridgeport (23-6, 8-2 ECC) take on No. 3 Daemen (16-11, 5-5 ECC). Bridgeport continues their conference-high streak by making the tournament for the 17th straight season. The five-time ECC Champions look to end a three-season title drought.
Daemen, the reigning ECC Champion, is back in the bracket for the second straight year and for the third time in four seasons. The Wildcats title defense will see them head on the road in an ECC postseason for the first time. The previous two instances Daemen made the tournament, they served as the host institution.
Bridgeport took both matches against Daemen this season. The Purple Knights completed a 3-0 sweep on their home court before a tight 3-2 win went in their favor at Daemen.
The tournament will start on Friday, November 22 with the Mercy vs. Molloy matchup at 5:00 p.m. Daemen vs. Bridgeport will follow at 7:30 p.m. The winners of the semifinal matchups will move on to the final on Saturday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m.
All three matches of the championship will be broadcast on the ECC Network.
