Bridgeport Claims Fourth Straight ECC Crown With Four-Set Win Over NYIT

Bridgeport, Conn. - Led by 15 kills from East Coast Championship Tournament Most Outstanding Player Sarah Rosa (Sr., Itajuba, Brazil), the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team won its fourth straight ECC Championship Tournament title with a four-set, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 25-16, over the NYIT Bears in UB's Hubbell Gym on Saturday night.  With the victory, the top-seeded Purple Knights are now 25-8 overall and receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championship that will begin on Thursday, December 3.  NYIT, the number three seed in the 2015 ECC Championship Tournament, is now 25-7, and the Bears should receive an at-large bid to the NCAA's when tournament pairings are announced on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m.
 
Regular season ECC Most Outstanding Player, Bridgeport's Katarina Krstonosic (Jr., Kikinda, Serbia) contributed a double for the winners with 11 kills and a team-high 17 digs, and junior Sara Cruz (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had 13 kills for UB.
 
Freshman setter Ellie Rich (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) directed the Bridgeport offense with 45 assists, and junior libero Amelie Guinci (Cannes, France) help direct the Purple Knights' defense with 16 digs.
 
NYIT was led by Karolina Moderova who had a match-high 19 kills, plus she added nine digs and four total blocks (two solos).
