Indianapolis, Ind. - ECC Champion, University
of Bridgeport, has earned the top seed in the East Region bracket
of the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Championship. LIU Post
earns an at-large bid to give the ECC two out of the 64 teams in
the field of schools competing for a National Championship. This is
the seventh all-time tournament appearance for both schools.
Bridgeport earns the No. 1 seed and hosting duties for the East
Regional for the second year in a row. The Purple Knights, who won
their third consecutive ECC title on Saturday evening, enter the
tournament on a 12 game winning streak to move their record to 24-2
on the season.
In their seventh NCAA Championship appearance in a row, Bridgeport
will take on the No. 8 seed and champions of the Central Atlantic
Collegiate Conference, Post University. Post, who enters tournament
play with a record of 22-10, is making their first-ever appearance
in the tournament.
LIU Post (19-13) earns an at-large bid for their third straight
NCAA appearance and fourth in five seasons. The Pioneers are the
No. 6 seed and will take on No. 3 seed, Stonehill (21-7). LIU Post
is attempting to repeat as East Region Champions after winning the
program's first title in 2013.
Despite being ranked No. 6 in the final regional rankings before
the conference tournaments, Dowling did not earn an at-large bid,
making this the first year since 2001 the Golden Lions will not be
in the field.
The other two quarterfinal match-ups pit Northeast 10 members
against one another. No. 2 New Haven will take on No. 7 Saint Rose,
while NE10 Champion, Adelphi, is the No. 5 seed and will face No. 4
Bentley.
Tournament play will begin on Thursday, November 20 and end with
the regional final on Saturday, November 22. The winner of the East
Region will advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, which will
take place in Louisville, Ky. from December 4 -6.
