Central Islip, N.Y. – The coaches from
the East Coast Conference have voted junior outside hitter/setter,
Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) from the University of Bridgeport,
as the 2013 ECC Volleyball Player of the Year. A pair of LIU Post
teammates, junior Rachel Ringor (Honolulu, Hawaii) and freshman
Shelby McCool (Eugene, Ore.), were named the conference’s
Libero of the Year and the Rookie of the Year, respectively.
Savic, a three-time All-Conference First Team selection, put
together her best season to date by filling multiple roles for the
Purple Knights. Savic split time between hitting and setting with
equal success in both spots. As a hitter, she totaled 175 kills and
a .275 hitting percentage that ranked 10th in the ECC. She ranked
in the top-10 in the conference by ranking ninth with 491 assists
and seventh with 6.06 assists per set as well. Her season
totals also include 184 digs, 29 total blocks, and 29 aces. In all,
Savic posted five triple-doubles, including two in one week to earn
AVCA Division II National Player of the Week honors, and eight
double-doubles on the year.
Ringor anchored the Pioneers’ defense this season with a
team-leading 522 digs. That total was good for third in the ECC.
Additionally, Ringor’s name was atop the ECC leaderboard in
digs per set (4.75), service aces (51), and service aces per set
(0.46), as she led the conference in all three categories.
McCool had a standout freshman year, leading LIU Post and ranking
sixth in the ECC with 313 kills. She ranked in the
conference’s top-10 with 2.90 kills per set on a .218 hitting
percentage as well. A two-time recipient of the ECC Rookie of the
Week honor, McCool also contributed with 269 digs, 18 services
aces, and 37 total blocks on the season.
Leo Uzcategui, head coach at Bridgeport, has been selected as
Coach of the Year by his peers. Uzcategui led the Purple Knights to
