Indianapolis – Three East Coast
Conference volleyball teams have been included in the bracket of 64
released by the NCAA on Sunday night. The ECC champion, Dowling
College, is the No. 2 seed in the East Region. The Golden Lions are
joined by Bridgeport, who earned the No. 3 seed, and NYIT, the No.
6 seed.
Dowling, who defeated Bridgeport 3-0 in the ECC Final to earn the
conference’s automatic bid and also their tenth straight trip
to the tournament, will take on the No. 7 seed and CACC champion,
Caldwell. The Golden Lions, currently 27-4 on the season, are
looking to make their sixth appearance in the Elite Eight in the
last seven years.
Bridgeport (18-7) earns an at large berth after making it to the
final of the ECC Volleyball Championship. The Purple Knights, who
are making their fourth straight appearance in the tournament, will
face No. 6 seed NYIT. The Bears earned their first sport in the
championship field since 2006 with a 19-8 record on the season and
after finishing second in regular season ECC play at 11-3. The
meeting between the Purple Knights and the Bears will be the fourth
of the season, with Bridgeport taking two of three to date.
Other teams in the field include No. 1 and host New Haven, No. 4
Adelphi, No. 5 Stonehill, and No. 8 Pace. Tournament play will
begin on Thursday, November 17 and will continue until the finals
on Saturday, November 19.
