The Dowling volleyball team has earned a No. 22 national ranking
in the 2011 Division II preseason poll conducted by the American
Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA). This puts the Golden
Lions down two spots from the final regular season poll in 2010 in
which they finished 20th.
This marks just the second time Dowling has been ranked in the AVCA
preseason poll, coming off a 2010 season that saw them go 31-2,
including a 44-set win streak to start the year. That same
year, Dowling also became the first volleyball team from the East
Region in NCAA Division II history to make it to the National
Semifinals.
This year, Dowling is led by three-time East Coast Conference (ECC)
Player of the Year and All-American Maja Potpara, who returns for
her 4th and final season. Potpara and the Golden Lions start
2011 on September 2nd when they host Bentley University at Dowling
Gymnasium.
