AVCA All-Region and All-America Teams Announced

Central Islip, N.Y. - Six East Coast Conference volleyball players have been selected to the AVCA All-East Region Team.  Dowling's Maja Potpara (So., S) went on to earn All-America Third Team honors while Bridgeport's Terry Masava (Jr., OH) claimed All-America Honorable Mention nods.

Potpara a two-time ECC Player of the Year and 2008 AVCA Rookie of the year helped lead the Golden Lions to the 2009 NCAA Division II East Regional championship and berth in the national quarterfinals. Potpara ranked in the top-three on the team in kills, service aces, digs, block assists, and total blocks and is receiving AVCA All-America honors for the first time.

Masava led the Purple Knights in kills this season with a total of 499, which is an average of 3.59 kills per set.  She helped to team achieve their most successful finish in program history along with a program first ECC Championship title.

The Golden Lions placed four on the All-Region team.  Potpara was joined by Monika Kasperek (Jr., MB), Patrycia Klekotka (OH, Sr.) and Bethany Shepard (Fr., OH), all who received All-Conference First Team accolades earlier.

The Purple Knights claimed two spots on the team as Masava was joined by teammate Agatha Baliddawa (Sr., MB). 

Bridgeport Head Coach, Leo Uzcategui also received recognition as he was selected the AVCA East Region Coach of the Year.
