Lexington, KY - The East Coast Conference filled eight of the fourteen slots on the AVCA East Region team with Dowling College's Maja Potpara garnering Region Freshman of the Year honors.
Potpara (S/H) was named the 2008 ECC Freshman and Player of the Year, as she helped to lead the Golden Lions to their fifth straight conference title. She hit .317 on the season averaging 2.49 kills per game. Potpara was second on the team with 5.35 assists per game and .56 aces per game while pitching in defensively with 1.74 digs per game.
Teammates Monika Kasperek (So., MB) and Patrycja Klekotka (Jr., OH), a two-time recipient, join Potpara to round out the Golden Lions representation on the All-Region team.
Both the University of Bridgeport and Queens College placed two athletes on the All-Region team. Junior middle Emma Ariyo and sophomore outside Ivana Kovacevic-Jurasin represent the Purple Knights on the squad while senior middles Natalie Edward and Enobong Shammah were selected from Queens.
Adelphi University's Amy Williams was the lone libero selected to the All-Region team.
In addition three players were named East Region Honorable Mention: Adelphi's Kathleen Carney (Sr., RS/Opp) and Dowling's Marina Markovic (Jr., OH) and Erin Przybylowicz (So., S).
