Queens Advances to Defend ECC Crown

Flushing, N.Y. – The Queens College women's tennis team swept the Daemen College Wildcats, 4-0, in the East Coast Conference (ECC) Play-In Round on Friday inside the QC Tennis Courts. 
 
With the win, the Knights (2-1) advances to their ninth straight ECC championship game and for the 17th time in 18 seasons.
 
They will lock heads with the regular season champions St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans (9-1) as they get set to defend their 2019 crown. 
 
Doubles Competition
 
The Knights wasted no time in clinching the doubles points as they picked up the wins at the No. 2 and 3 doubles courts. 
 
The No. 3 pair of Gabriela Sciarotta (Woodmere, N.Y.) / Aleksandra Caricic (New York, N.Y.) gave the Knights an early lead as they defeated the Wildcats pair of Mackenzie Schayes / Hannah Pagano to the score of 6-1. 
 
The Knights No. 2 duo of Lilly Schmidt (Montabaur, Germany) / Nathalie Ulander (Stockholm, Sweden) would clinch the doubles points defeating the duo of Kayla Nguyen / Courtney Otis, 6-1. 
 
Singles Competition
 
Sciarotta quickly put the Knights up 2-0 as the Woodmere native shutout Schayes to the score of 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 4 singles spot. 
 
Lovisa Engstrand (Stockholm, Sweden)  would give the Knights a 3-0 lead defeating Nguyen to the score 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. 
 
Caricic advanced the Knights to the final as she dispatched Otis 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 slot.
