Firebirds Soar Past Spartans to Advance to ECC Championship Final

Flushing, N.Y. - The University of the District of Columbia's women's tennis team defeated St. Thomas Aquinas College 4-1 in the ECC Championship semifinals to advance to the final. The Firebirds (11-1) will face off against No.1 seed Queens College tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.

The Firebirds were off to a great start securing the doubles point with wins at both No.2 and 3 doubles. With the doubles point under their belt, the Firebirds only needed to win three matches in singles play. Simoné Pärn led the Firebirds winning the first singles point defeating Sofia Shut'ko 6-1, 6-2 at No.1. The Spartans would receive their first and only win at No.6 after Ayesha Burnett defeated Estefania Castrillon 6-2,6-2. Marija Milic and Izabella Bilecova went on to win their matches at No.2 and No. 5 to secure UDC's win over the Spartans.

UDC (11-1, 5-1 ECC) will have a rematch against Queens College tomorrow October 26th in the ECC Championship final. First serve is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
