West Babylon, N.Y. - With the conclusion of regular season play, the bracket for the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championship is now set. Tournament action commences with semifinal play on Friday, October 28 at the Queens College Tennis Center. The winners of the semifinals will advance to the championship match on Saturday at 12 noon.
First serve of championship play will commence on the morning of Friday, October 27 at 11 a.m. when ECC Regular Season Champion and tournament host, Queens, squares of with No. 4 St. Thomas Aquinas. Queens clinched its first regular season title since 2012 with a perfect 7-0 record (9-0 overall). The Knights, ECC runner-up in each of the past five seasons, are also in search of their first ECC Championship since 2010.
St. Thomas Aquinas finished with a 4-3 ECC record (7-8 overall) to clinch their first ECC Championship appearance since the 2010 season. During the regular season, the two schools played a tight match with the Knights defeating the Lady Spartans by a 5-4 margin.
The other semifinal matchup features Northern Boulevard rivals, No. 2 seed LIU Post and No. 3 seed NYIT at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The Pioneers (8-2, 6-1 ECC), who are back in the bracket for the fifth straight year, are in search of their first-ever ECC title.
Their opponent has plenty of experience in winning conference championships as NYIT are five-time defending ECC Champions. Despite having a 39 match (including postseason) winning streak against ECC opponents snapped early in the season, the Bears earned the No. 3 seed with a regular season closing 5-4 win over Roberts Wesleyan.
In their previous matchup this season on October 7, LIU Post narrowly defeated NYIT by a final tally of 5-4.
