Flushing, N.Y. - The second seeded Queens College women's tennis team fell to third seeded Concordia 5-4 Sunday afternoon in the finals of East Region 2.
The Knights jumped out to a 2-1 lead after the doubles portion. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Cami Abdallah and Angelika Sobiecka picked up a dominant 8-0 victory over Constanza Mecchi and Stefanie Canals-Baker. In No. 2 doubles, Andrea Samson and Frederick Börner defeated Antonia Conze and Valeriia Cheban 8-4. In No. 3 doubles, Sumeera Kamil and Line Sorsdahl Aasen were upended by Linda Eliasson and Kaja Tegtmeier 8-4.
In No. 1 singles, a 6-4, 6-0 win by Mecchi over Kamil evened the match at two. A 6-2, 6-3 win in No. 3 singles for Sobiecka over Conze, and 6-0, 6-4 victory for Abdallah over Cheban pushed QC ahead by two. From there, the Clippers claimed the match by securing the final three victories.
In No. 5 singles, Tegtmeier defeated Börner 6-3, 6-3. A three-set victory (6-0, 5-7, 6-1) by Canals-Baker over Darya Kolesnichenko evened the match at three apiece. Concordia clinched the match when Eliasson captured a 7-5, 6-3 win over Samson.
The Knights conclude the season at 16-4, and made their 16th straight NCAA appearance.
