NYIT Advances to ECC Championship

Flushing, N.Y. - The NYIT women's tennis team advances to their third straight East Coast Conference championship match with a 4-0 victory over neighboring rival LIU Post. The Bears will face the winner of the Queens (N.Y.)/Dist. Columbia match on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. in Flushing, N.Y.

The Bears claimed both doubles points as third doubles was not played due to insufficient rosters on both behalfs. ECC Player of the Year Sara Burinato (Barcelona, Spain) and Alessia Rossetti (Minusio, Switzerland) defeated Didi Fatchikova and Lucie Chrastecka 8-1 at the No. 1 spot. Alexandra Borgenhoff (Alingsas, Sweeden) and Gabriela Siembab (Chrzanow, Poland) topped Heen Kewalramani and Laura Harwell 8-3.

The Bears then opened singles play with a 3-0 match lead due to not enough Pioneers to field No. 5 singles. Melanie Benyadi (Saint Etienne, France) won by default. Borgenhoff then clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-0 win aver Meagan Byrne at fourth singles.

Burinato led 6-2, 4-0 at second singles but went unfinished, as did Rossetti at first singles 6-0, 1-0. Siembab was also up 6-0, 3-0 at third singles. Sixth singles did not play.
