Mocodeanu, Goldsmith Headline Women's Tennis All-Conference Awards

Central Islip, N.Y. - Junior Laura Mocodeanu (Hyde Park, N.Y.) from Queens College has been tabbed the 2009 East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, as voted on by the league's coaches.  Teammate Erika Goldsmith (Edison, NJ) garners Rookie of the Year honors.

Mocodeanu has compiled a 9-3 singles record including the NJIT Division I Singles Tournament matches at the No. 1 singles position and stands at 10-3 in doubles play.  She went untouched in conference play with a 3-0 record in singles and 5-0 record in doubles.  At the ITA Regional Tournament, Mocodeanu advanced to the Semifinals of the women's A singles, winning three straight matches which included a 6-2, 6-7 (10-6) victory over the No. 3 seeded Plevako from Concordia.  She teamed up with Kirby Reiss in the women's A doubles bracket and the duo made their way to the semifinals before falling the eventual champions.

Goldsmith has had an impressive rookie campaign.  She boasts a 13-1 singles record at the No. 2 and 3 positions and a 14-1 record in doubles action.  The four-time ECC Rookie of the Week was victorious at the NJIT Division I Singles Tournament defeating Marist's Erin McCarthy, 8-2, in the Women's B Finals and then partnered with Somadi Druker to capture the Doubles Final with a 6-4 win over Hofstra.

Knights' head coach, Alan Nagel has been selected the coach of the year by his peers.  Nagel led the Queens to a perfect 9-0 overall record this season as well as an ECC regular season title. 

Mocodeanu and Goldsmith are joined by teammates Somadi Druker (Gr., South Africa) and Maria Mendes (Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil) along with Dowling's Tamiris Diversi (Jr., Limeira, Brazil) and Molloy's Jeana Frey (Jr., Island Park, N.Y.) on the All-Conference First Team.

The All-Conference Second Team recipients include: Taylor Barber (Queens, So., Salt Lake City, Utah), Cristina Hoffman (Dowling, Jr., Floripa, Brazil), Diane Kobasiuk (Dowling, Sr., Mastic Beach, N.Y.), Morgan Milleisen (C.W. Post, Jr., Bayport, N.Y.), Alison Reeg (STAC, Sr., Stony Point, N.Y.) and Kirby Reiss (Queens, Jr., Rockville Centre, N.Y.).
