ECC Women’s Tennis All Conference Teams Announced; Flight Champions Crowned

Flushing, N.Y. - Somadi Druker of Concordia College has been named the East Coast Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year, as voted upon by the conference coaches, headlining the ECC All Conference teams and flight champions announced Sunday afternoon at Queens College.

Druker posted a perfect 7-0 regular mark against ECC competition at No. 1 singles, and posted a 10-0 overall record. She added perfect marks as part of doubles competition as well, going 7-0 against conference opponents and 10-0 overall.

Druker went on to capture the No. 1 Singles Flight Championship Sunday.

Alda Ribeiro of Adelphi University was named Rookie of the Year after posting a 6-1 ECC mark at No. 1 singles and a 6-1 overall mark, and added a 5-3 overall and 4-2 record at No. 1 doubles. Ribeiro finished second overall in the No. 1 singles flight tournament, bowing to Druker in the finals.

Alan Nagel of Queens was named Coach of the Year, after guiding the Knights to their seventh consecutive ECC regular season championship with a 7-0 record and a 10-1 overall mark with their only loss coming to Division I Fordham University. Queens captured its sixth straight team tournament title this past Thursday when the Knights topped Concordia College, 5-2.

The ECC All Conference First Team included Druker and Ribeiro, along with Alyssa Morra and Laura Mocodeanu of Queens, Celise Sesanker of Concordia, and Ashley Horishay of Dowling College.

The ECC All Conference Second Team included Adeline Brennan of Concordia, Diane Kobasiuk of Dowling College, Alison Mahony of the University of New Haven, and Jessica Franklin, Kirby Reiss and Jennifer Merideth of Queens.

The flight tournament concluded Sunday afternoon. Champions included Druker at No.1 singles, Mocodeanu at No. 2 singles, Franklin at No. 3 singles, Reiss at No. 4 singles, Tita Kiss of Concordia at No. 5 singles, and Maria Perevezentseva of Queens at No. 6 singles.

Druker & Sensaker captured the No. 1 doubles title, Reiss and Mocodeanu captured the No. 2 doubles title, and Merideth and Maria Perevezentseva of Queens too the No. 3 doubles title.
