Final Four Bound! Bridgeport Advances To National Semifinals With 3-1 Win Over Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg, Pa.- For the second time in school history, all in the last four seasons, the University of Bridgeport women's soccer has advanced to the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer National Championship Semifinals, as the East Region Champion Purple Knights defeated the Atlantic Region Champion, Bloomsburg University Huskies, 3-1, on BU's home field on a chilly Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania.  With the win, Bridgeport advances to the National Semifinals which will held in Pittsburg, Pa. beginning Thursday, November 29th against an opponent to be determined.  UB is now 18-4-1 overall.  Bloomsburg ends is stellar 2018 campaign at 17-3-3.

The Purple Knights opened the scoring on Sunday when sophomore Amanda Ebbesson (Solna, Sweden) scored her second goal of the season off a beautiful long through ball from junior Nara DaCosta (Pancas, Brazil) with just under 15 minutes to play in the first half.

The match remained 1-0 in favor of the Purple Knights until the 52nd when junior Maegen Doyle (Harwich, England) extend her single-season school record for goals when she found the back of the net for the 27th time in 2018 off an assist from sophomore Rebekka Skaasheim(Balestrand, Norway).  Doyle now has scored in seventeen straight matches in which she has played.

The Huskies made things interesting when they cut the UB lead to 2-1 with just under seven minutes to play when Nicole Varano scored off a corner kick.

Bridgeport would then put the game the away when senior Karoline Vieira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) scored on a penalty kick for her third goal of the season after sophomore Andrea Basilicato  (Guilford, Conn.) was fouled in the box.
