No. 14 LIU Post Clipped By Adelphi in NCAA Second Round, 2-1

Garden City, N.Y. - On Sunday, the No. 14 and third-seeded LIU Post women's soccer team saw its season come to a close with a 2-1 loss to No. 9 and top-seeded Adelphi University in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Division II Championship at Motamed Field.

The Pioneers (15-4-2), who trailed 2-0 at the break, broke through in the 72nd minute to cut the deficit in half.

Sophomore back/midfielder Alice Schonfeldt (Burtrask, Sweden) played a long ball over the Panthers' (16-3-1) defense for a streaking Andrea Huntzinger (Stockholm, Sweden). Huntzinger then chipped a shot over Adelphi sophomore goalkeeper Anne Marie Ulliac (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) for the goal.

In the final minutes, the green and gold had one last-ditch effort to tie the game, but freshman midfielder/forward Gabrielle Clark (Edmonds, Wash.) fired a shot wide of the frame.

During the first half, the Panthers' Jeanine Nunez (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Laura Gomez (Deer Park, N.Y.) got on the scoresheet nearly 11 minutes apart to send Adelphi into the break with a 2-0 advantage.

Between the pipes, sophomore netminder Hillevi Eklow (Väröbacka, Sweden) made a game-high five saves for the Pioneers. Ulliac turned aside three shots for the Panthers.
