Bridgeport and LIU Post Selected for NCAA Women's Soccer Championship

Indianapolis - The East Coast Conference will send two women's soccer teams to the NCAA Division II Championship with Bridgeport and LIU Post earning berths when the bracket was revealed Monday evening.

Bridgeport is back to vie for a National Championship for the ninth time in the past 10 seasons as the No. 1 seed in the East Region for the second straight season. The Purple Knights, who earned their first-ever East Region Championship and Final Four berth a season ago, come into championship play with a 16-3 record and a No. 7 ranking in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25 poll.

The Purple Knights, who will host half the East Region bracket and receive a first round bye as the top seed, will take on the winner of No. 4 Stonehill (15-5-1) and No. 5 American International (11-7-1). The Purple Knights did not play Stonehill this season, but defeated American International, 1-0, in their opening game of the year.

LIU Post makes its third straight NCAA Championship appearance after advancing to the final of the ECC Championship for the first time since 2010 and posting a 14-3-2 record on the year. The Pioneers earned the No. 3 seed and will be on the other half of the bracket, which will be hosted by No. 2 seed, Adelphi.

The Pioneers first round opponent will be No. 6 seed, Caldwell (12-3-2), champions of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). The Pioneers and Cougars met earlier this season, with LIU Post coming away victorious by a score of 4-0.
