Bridgeport's Nilerud Named NSCAA Division II Women's Soccer Coach Of The Year

Kansas City. Mo. - University of Bridgeport head women's soccer coach Magnus Nilerud has been named the 2015 NCAA Division II National Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Nilerud recently completed a record-setting seventeenth year as his alma mater's head women's soccer coach directing the Purple Knights to a single-season school record 21-2-1 record that included the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II National Semifinals and first-ever East Region crown.  UB also captured both the East Coast Conference Championship Tournament and regular season titles in 2015.  Bridgeport also ranked number four in the nation in the final NSCAA NCAA Division II National Poll of this season.

A five-time Conference Coach of the Year selection by his peers including this season, plus a 2011 and 2015 NSCAA East Regional Coach of the Year honoree, Nilerud has amassed an impressive 229-98-20 overall record during his career which has seen Bridgeport make eight NCAA Division II National Championship appearance in the last nine seasons.  His teams have also won three ECC Championship tournament title (2009, 2013, 2015) and brought home ECC regular season titles in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2015.

In 17 seasons on the sidelines, Nilerud has coached 98 All-Conference players including six Conference Rookies of the Year players, six Defensive Players of the Year, Two Goalkeepers of the Year and five Offensive Players of the Year, 37 National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II All-Region players, 25 Daktronics/Conference Commissioners Association Women's Soccer All-Northeast Region Team players, one Daktronics Division II Women's Soccer Northeast Region Player of the Year, 14 Academic All-District One Women's Soccer Team players, six NSCAA NCAA Division II All-America players, eight NSCAA NCAA Division II Scholar All-America players and nine Daktronics/Conference Commissioners Association. In addition, he has coached 15 consecutive NSCAA Women's Academic Award Teams.
