Kansas City, Kan. - After starting the season
with a 2-0 record, the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team
has jumped to the No. 11 spot in the latest National Soccer Coaches
Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire Division II Top 25
poll.
The Purple Knights jumped nine spots from their No. 20 preseason
ranking after a pair of victories in the opening week of the
season. Bridgeport won a pair of one goal games defeating then No.
4 ranked American International, 2-1, and Southern Connecticut
State, 1-0.
Bridgeport is one of two teams from the East Region in the Top 25
poll, coming in behind Saint Rose at No. 5. Saint Rose is also the
only school listed ahead of Bridgeport in this week's NSCAA East
Region rankings as well.
Other ECC squads joining Bridgeport in the East Region rankings are
Mercy College at No. 4 and LIU Post at No. 7. Mercy also went 2-0
on the week with 1-0 wins over Pace and Post. LIU Post split two
one-goal games against the same opponents as Bridgeport. The
Pioneers defeated American International 1-0 and fell to Southern
Connecticut State by a score of 2-1.
