Purple Knights Move On In NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship With 1-0 Win Over Caldwell

Springfield, Mass. - Freshman Tabea Rauschenberger (Mühlacker, Germany) scored the only goal of the match when she hammered home a beautiful feed from sophomore Flo Gamby (Goffs Oaks, England) with 27:26 to play in the second half to lift the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights to a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Caldwell College Cougars in the First Round of the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Tournament in a match played in Springfield, Massachusetts on the campus of American International College.  Bridgeport will now move on to play American International College in the Second Round of the 2013 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.  UB is the number three seed in the region and AIC is the number two seed.

Bridgeport dominated play on offense on the afternoon outshooting Caldwell, 22-10, including a 14-7 advantage in the second half.

Both goalkeepers played well in the match with Bridgeport senior Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) making seven saves, and the Cougars' Robin Franchi making six stops.

Rauschenberger's game-winning goal is her fifth of the 2013 season.

Bridgeport moves onto Sunday's action with an 18-2-0 record which ties the school record for single season victories set in 2008, and Caldwell ends its season at 13-6-2.
