Indianapolis, Ind. – Four ECC
women’s soccer teams were ranked in the latest NCAA East
Regional rankings, released earlier this week.
Bridgeport was the highest ranked ECC squad coming in at No. 3. The
Purple Knights put together a 15 game winning streak after falling
to No. 2 ranked American International in their season opener.
Included in the streak was wins in their first eight ECC games,
earning Bridgeport the regular season championship, as well as the
top seed and homefield advantage throughout the upcoming ECC
Championship.
Next up was LIU Post at No. 4. The Pioneers, have won 11 of their
past 12 matches to move to 13-3 on the season. Looking to make
their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, LIU Post can
clinch the No. 2 seed in the ECC Championship with a victory in
their season finale.
Mercy is the next ECC squad in the rankings at No. 6. The Mavericks
have put together a season of firsts in 2013. With an 11-3-1
record, Mercy has clinched their first ever winning season and also
the first berth in the ECC Championship in program history.
Wrapping up the ECC’s representation in the NCAA East Region
poll is two-time defending champion, Dowling. The Golden Lions are
currently listed at No. 7 in the poll with a 12-3-1 record on the
season.
The NCAA regional rankings are released once a week the final three
weeks of the season. The top six teams (three conference tournament
champions and three at-large berths) in the poll after the
conference championships will earn bids to the Division II
Women’s Soccer Tournament.
