Kansas City, Kan. – With two victories in
the opening week of the 2013 season, the Dowling College
women’s soccer team kept their spot in the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America’s Division II Top 25 poll. The
Golden Lions come in at No. 21, a two spot jump from their
preseason ranking.
Dowling won two non-conference matchups against Northeast 10 foes,
Bentley and Merrimack, by identical 1-0 scores to start the season.
ECC Defensive Player of the Week, junior goalkeeper Melissa
Guglielmo, posted two shutouts on 15 saves to lead Dowling to
victory.
LIU Post, which started the season by splitting a pair of games,
falls out of the rankings. The Pioneers started the season ranked
No. 24 in the preseason poll.
The first NSCAA East Region rankings were also released on Tuesday.
Dowling is the highest ranked ECC squad coming in at No. 3 behind
Saint Rose and American International. Despite the loss, LIU Post
is the next ranked ECC squad at No. 5.
Other ECC squads listed include Queens and Bridgeport. Those two
squads tied for the 10th and final spot in the poll.
