Bridgeport, Conn. - The University of
Bridgeport women's soccer team scored a goal in each half and used
a dominating performance on defense to reach the 2012 East Coast
Conference Championship Final with a 2-0 home semifinal win over
the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Friday
afternoon. UB, the number two seed in the tournament, will
now host the number four seed, Dowling College Golden Lions at 12
noon on Sunday, November 4 for the 2012 East Coast Conference
Women's Soccer crown and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II
Championship Tournament that will begin next week. Dowling
upset number one seed LIU Post, 2-1, on Friday.
With the win, the Purple Knights head into the ECC Final with an
11-5-2 overall record. Queens closed out its 2012 season with
a 10-4-4 mark.
Senior Asia Pulse (New Haven, Conn.) scored the match's first goal
at the 32:35 mark when she scored her four goal of the season off
an assist from sophomore Aulona Velaj (Stamford, Conn.).
Velaj would then put the game away for the Purple Knights when she
tallied her first goal of 2012 off a beautiful through ball from
classmate Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) at the 77:18 mark of
play.
The Bridgeport defense limited Queens to only two shots on the
afternoon, both which were not goal. UB outshot Queens, 10-2,
for the match.
UB goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Jr., Tocksfors, Sweden) recorded her
seventh clean sheet of the year in the win.
Queens goalkeeper Alison Breakey made four saves for the
Knights.
