Highland Heights, Ky. – After an unbeaten
season that saw them hold the No. 1 spot in the national rankings
for most of the way, the University of Bridgeport women’s
soccer team had four student-athletes honored by being named to the
Daktronics All-American teams.
Leading the way are First Team selections Julia Hansson and Marie
Pettersson. Hansson, the ECC Goalkeeper of the Year, allowed only
five goals on the season for a Division II leading .271 goals
against average. She also led the nation in save percentage at .955
percent.
Pettersson, the ECC Defensive Player of the Year, was a stalwart
all season on the Purple Knights’ back line, playing a huge
role in Bridgeport leading the country in team goals-against
average. She also contributed to an amazing season with one goal
and one assist.
Joining Hansson and Pettersson as All-Americans are Katie Stanley
and Kasey Kenny on the Third Team. Stanley, a midfielder, scored
seven goals and dished off six assists on the season, finishing as
the Purple Knights’ third leading scorer. Kenny was an
offensive force, earning her the ECC Offensive Player of the Year
award. In 18 games, she scored 10 goals and passed off six assists
to lead Bridgeport with 26 points.
