Six ECC Student-Athletes Named to the Capital One Men’s and Women’s Soccer Academic All-District Team

Central Islip, N.Y. – Six East Coast Conference soccer standouts have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Teams for their outstanding work in the classroom and on the pitch.

Five women soccer student-athletes were named to the Academic All-District team with Allison Sloper of Molloy and Katie Stanley of Bridgeport selected to the First Team. Sloper, who led Molloy to the ECC Women’s Soccer Final by tallying 12 goals and six assists for 30 points, currently holds a 3.86 GPA as an Adolescent Education major. Stanley, a Psychology major with a 3.43 GPA, helped the Purple Knights to a perfect regular season and the top spot in the NSCAA National Poll. She ranks third on the Purple Knights in scoring with 20 points on seven goals and six assists.

Megan Emanuelo of Dowling, Kathryn Miller of NYIT, and Marie Pettersson of Bridgeport also earned Second Team selections.

On the men’s side, senior Vladimir Milosavljevic of Dowling earned a spot on the First Team. Milosavljevic, the 2011 ECC Male Scholar Athlete of the Year, currently holds a perfect 4.00 GPA as a Finance major.  Also the winner of the 2010 NCAA Elite 88 award, an honor bestowed upon the student-athlete with the highest GPA in their sport at the championship finals site, Milosavljevic was a mainstay on the Dowling back line as a four year starter.

All First Team selections are now eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America Team which will be released on November 30.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games at the position listed on the nomination form (where applicable). In baseball and softball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. Athletes who have not participated in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests are not eligible. No student-athlete is eligible until he/she has completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution and has reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the cases of transfers, graduate students and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution to be eligible. Nominees in graduate school must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or better both as an undergrad and in grad school.
