Central Islip, N.Y. - The C.W. Post Pioneers
have been picked to repeat the Women’s Soccer champions in
the 2011 season, as voted upon by the league’s coaches.
Bridgeport’s senior midfielder Katie Stanley has been tabbed
the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and senior goalkeeper
Allie Weiser from C.W. Post was voted the Preseason Defensive
Player of the Year.
Despite only two first place votes, the Pioneers finished with a
total of 56 points to earn the top spot in the poll. C.W. Post
claimed both the Regular Season and Championship titles last season
and earned a bid to the NCAA Regional Final before falling to top
ranked St. Rose. They finished the season with a 14-2-4
overall mark and a 6-0-1 record in conference play. C.W. Post has
also been ranked No. 20 in the NSCAA Preseason Division II National
Poll.
Bridgeport claims the second spot with four first place votes for
55 points. The Purple Knights also earned a spot in the NCAA
Tournament last season and finished 2010 with a 14-4-2 overall
mark. Queens rounds out the top three with 42 points after a
11-7-2 record last season.
Stanley takes home the ECC preseason top honor after being an
All-Conference and All-Region selection a year ago. In 2010
she finished with 21 points on eight goals, including two game
winners, and five assists.
A two-time ECC Goalkeeper of the Year, Weiser put together a 13-2-4
record in net for the Pioneers in 2010. She amassed 89 saves and a
.899 save percentage to go along with 9 shutouts last season.
