Svensson, Babic and Velaj Earn Daktronics All-America Honors

Highland Heights, Ky. - C.W. Post senior defender Anna Svensson was named to 2010 Daktronics Women’s Soccer All-America First Team.  Teammate Ivana Babic along with Bridgeport’s Linda Velaj garnered Third Team honors.

Svensson, the 2010 East Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Year, is a  four-time all-conference selection.  Also a two-time Daktronics All-Region pick and a 2008 All-American, Svensson has started in every single game the Pioneers have played during her tenure in green and gold.  This year, she had one goal and one assist to her credit while anchoring a defense that has allowed only 10 goals all season.

Babic, the 2010 East Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, is another four-time all-conference selection, three-time Daktronics, Inc. All-Region pick, and two-time CoSIDA/ESPN All-District honoree.  The senior has scored 13 goals, good for second on her team, and is tied for the lead with eight assists on the season.

Velaj scored 20 goals and had seven assists for a total of 47 points in 2010 as she helped the Purple Knights to the Second Round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship Tournament. A four-time First Team All-East Coast Conference selection, Linda helped her team a berth in the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament during each of her four seasons in a Bridgeport uniform. She also finished her career with 62 total goals which ranks her second on the school's all-time goal scoring list.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the three Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first-team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the fifth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America and all-region teams. A total of 39 student-athletes representing 24 different institutions filled out the three teams.

The team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The team is voted on by the NCAA Division II members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA), with the online nomination and voting process powered by ATHLETICSITE.COM.
