Women's Soccer All-Conference Teams Announced

Central Islip, N.Y. – Senior Ivana Babic (Haninge, Sweden) from C.W. Post has been selected the 2010 East Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Year, as voted on by the league’s coaches. C.W. Post Senior Anna Svensson (Stockholm, Sweden) has been tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year and junior Allie Weiser (Grand Island, N.Y.), also from C.W. Post garners Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Alexa Niciforo (East Islip, N.Y.) completes the sweep of the top award winners for C.W. Post, being named the Rookie of the Year.

Babic, a four year standout for the Pioneers, finishes off her career with the honor of top offensive player in the ECC. In helping C.W. Post to a top finish in the ECC with a 6-1 conference record, she tallied 30 points by scoring 12 goals and dishing off six assists. Babic led the conference in game winning goals with four, while also finishing second in the ECC
in points and goals and fourth in assists.

Svensson helped the Pioneers to a 11-4 overall record this season. She anchored a defense that allowed only eight goals and notched 10 shutouts on the season.

Weiser, who also won Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008, posted an 10-1-4 record. She tallied seven shutouts and 64 saves while allowing only eight goals on the year.

In her freshman campaign, Niciforo tied for the team lead with 12 goals while adding three assists for 27 points. She ranks second in the ECC in goals and also finished third in points.

Leading his team to an ECC Regular Season title, Mark Dawson has been voted the ECC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year by his peers. Dawson guided the Purple Knights to a 11-4 regular season record with a 6-1 mark in conference play to earn the top seed in the ECC Tournament.

Babic, Svensson, Weiser and Niciforo are joined on the All-Conference First Team by: Linda Velaj (F, Bridgeport), Kirri Bolton (MF, Queens), Cassandra Cronin (MF, Dowling), Danielle DeLuca (MF, C.W. Post), Katie Stanley (MF, Bridgeport), Elin Svavarsdottir (B, Bridgeport), and Michelle Miele (B, Dowling).

The All-Conference Second Team recipients include forwards: Asia Pulse (Bridgeport), Lorena Russi (Queens), and Nicole Valentine (Molloy); midfielders: Tove Eriksson (C.W. Post), Dianna Genevea (Molloy), Ceri Harris (Bridgeport), and Alexis Parrotta (Dowling); defenders: Alyssa Faller (Molloy), Jesse Gianatti (C.W. Post), and Rakel Hinriksdottir (Bridgeport) along with goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Bridgeport).
