LIU Post Falls to Adelphi in NCAA Tournament

Syracuse, N.Y. – The second-seeded No. 9/14 LIU Post women's lacrosse team fell to third-seeded No. 4/5 Adelphi University 16-3 Friday afternoon at Ted Gant Field on the campus of Le Moyne College in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship.
 
Junior Paige Sherlock led the Pioneers in goals with two while also recording four draw controls and three ground balls. Junior Alyssa Mallery added one goal and one assist while leading LIU Post in ground balls with four. Junior Sara Stephens collected three ground balls, as did freshman goalkeeper Hailey Duchnowski who also tallied five saves.
 
The Panthers opened the contest with a 5-0 leading, forcing LIU Post to play from behind early. With 16:25 on the clock, junior Brianna Feldman found Sherlock for the Pioneers' first goal of the game as LIU Post halted Adelphi's run.
 
Sherlock would score her second goal with 13:12 left to play, after she found herself on the receiving end of an assist by Mallery. Despite back-to-back Pioneer goals, Adelphi ended the half on a 3-0 run and took an 8-2 lead into halftime.
 
Adelphi opened the second half as they ended the first as they used a 3-0 run to surge ahead 11-2. Mallery would score the Pioneers' only goal of the half with 23:40 on the clock as the Panthers would close out the game with five straight goals for a 16-3 final score.
