LIU Post and Mercy Earn Bids to NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship

Indianapolis - The finalists from the East Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship will continue their season in the NCAA Championship, as both Mercy and LIU Post were included in the revealed bracket on Sunday evening.

Despite topping LIU Post for their first-ever ECC title, Mercy was the lower seed among the two schools as the No. 4 in the East Region bracket. The Mavericks earn their second-ever NCAA Championship bid after compiling a 15-4 record to date.

Mercy will take on top seed and defending National Champion, Le Moyne, in the First Round. This will be the first-ever matchup between the two programs. The Dolphins have spent the majority of the season as the top-ranked team in the IWLCA Top-25 poll and were unbeaten until earlier today when they fell in the final of the NE10 Championship.

LIU Post (16-4) will try to win the fifth National Championship in program history after adding on to their Division II record with their 16th tournament bid. The ECC runner-up will take on old conference foe and Long Island rival, Adelphi, in the First Round. The two schools also met in the First Round a season ago with Adelphi coming away with a 13-10 win.

LIU Post and Adelphi also met earlier this season with the Pioneers securing a thrilling 10-9 overtime victory. After LIU Post's March win, Adelphi now leads the overall series 13-12. This will also be the 10th meeting between the two in the NCAA Championship, with Adelphi leading that series, 6-3.

Both First Round matchups will take place on May 10 at Ted Grant Field on Le Moyne's campus in Syracuse, N.Y. The winners advance to the quarterfinal on May 12, also at Ted Grant Field.

The winner of the East Region bracket will advance to take on the Atlantic Region Champion in the semifinals on May 17 at the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium on the campus of Grand Valley State in Allendale, Mich.  The National Championship Game follows on May 19, also held in the GVSU Lacrosse Stadium.
