Syracuse, N.Y. – The LIU Post women's lacrosse team saw its season come to a close Friday, dropping its NCAA Division II Tournament opening round matchup to No. 2 seed Adelphi University, 13-10 at Ted Grant Field on the campus of Le Moyne College.
 
Sophomore Brianna Feldman scored a team-high three goals and sophomores Alyssa Mallery and Sara Stephens netted multi-goal games with two goals apiece. Classmate Angela Deren tallied a team-best six points with six assists on the afternoon. Beth Ann Pierce led the Panthers with four goals, while Lena Riportella and Kole Pollock added three goals each.
 
On the defensive end, senior Olivia Kirk made 11 saves between the pipes and the Green and Gold converted 12 of its 16 clear attempts. Adelphi held a 33-17 advantage in shots and also won 15 of the game's 25 draw controls to win the possession battle.
 
Adelphi took a lead 70 seconds into the contest on Pierce's first tally of the day to jump ahead 1-0. Junior Trish Brisotti and sophomore Alyssa Mallery gave LIU Post its first lead of the day with two unanswered goals before Pierce leveled the scoring once again just over 10 minutes in. The back and forth action continued as the teams battled to a 4-4 score with 9:45 remaining in the half. Sophomore Paige Sherlock sparked a 3-0 run with her 49th tally of the season to give LIU Post its largest lead of the game, 7-4 with under four minutes remaining. The Panthers cut the deficit to one, however, scoring in the final minute to head into halftime with the Pioneers ahead 8-7.
 
The LIU Post lead was erased early in the second stanza, as Adelphi took a 9-8 after six minutes. Feldman drew the score level once again with her second goal of the day with 21:53 to play but the offense was stymied from there. Adelphi jumped ahead for good with a four-goal burst, holding LIU Post to just two offensive possessions during the 15-minute run. Feldman scored her final goal of the game to cut the deficit to three goals and on the ensuing draw, Sherlock gained possession and found Stephens inside the eight-meter arc 17 seconds later but Stephens was turned away after a great save by Emma Lemanski and the Panthers kept possession the rest of the way for the three-goal win.
 
With the win, Adelphi advances to the quarterfinal round to face No. 1 seed Le Moyne College Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
