LIU Post Selected for NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship

Indianapolis - LIU Post will compete in the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Championship for a record 15th time, as the Pioneers were included in the bracket unveiled on Sunday evening.

Fresh off their fourth straight ECC Championship, LIU Post (14-5) earned the No. 3 and final spot in the East Region portion of the 12 team bracket. The Pioneers' first round opponent will be the defending National Champions, Adelphi. The matchup will feature the two most successful programs in women's lacrosse history as the two schools have combined to win 12 of the 17 all-time Division II National Championships. LIU Post has four of those titles with the last coming in 2013, while Adelphi has claimed eight, including three of the past four.

The Panthers, who are also right behind LIU Post in all-time tournament appearances with 14, have beaten the Pioneers already this season by a margin of 7-5 on April 7.

Despite their campuses being separated by less than 10 miles on Long Island, the two schools will travel to Le Moyne College in Syracuse, N.Y. for the first round contest. Le Moyne, the NE10 Champions, with a bye to the quarterfinals awaits the winner of the Adelphi vs. LIU Post matchup.

LIU Post also faced Le Moyne earlier this season, falling by a tally of 12-7 on March 10.

Florida Southern, Florida Tech, Limestone, West Chester, East Stroudsburg, Mercyhurst, Lindenwood, Regis, and Indianapolis are the other nine teams that are in the national title hunt.

The winner of the East Region bracket will advance to take on the Midwest Region Champion in the semifinals on May 18 in Tampa, Fla. at the UT Lacrosse Stadium on the campus of the University of Tampa. The National Championship will then be held on May 20, also in Tampa.
