BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Lacrosse Magazine released its preseason rankings for NCAA Division II women's lacrosse Tuesday morning. The magazine ranked C.W. Post second under rival West Chester University while Adelphi University filled in the #3 slot. The Pioneers' senior midfielder Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) was selected as the Division II Preseason Player of the Year.
The Pioneers ended their 2008 season with a heartbreaking 13-12 loss to the Golden Rams of West Chester University at the Division II National Championships in Houston, Texas. C.W. Post earned an overall record of 17-2, while posting a 5-1 East Coast Conference record. The Pioneers had outscored their opponents by a 310-110 margin for the season while holding a cumulative .778 shot on goal percentage.
The Panthers were handed their first loss of the 2008 season in the National Semifinals, falling to conference rival CW Post, 9-4. Adelphi finished up with a 16-1 overall record with a flawless6-0 record in conference play.
Hogan was a pivotal force in the Pioneers successful season. She led the team with 55 goals and 44 assists for a total of 99 points. She was the top contender in the circle for C.W. Post, grabbing a team high 54 draw controls for the season and causing 32 turnovers. Hogan garnered nods as a First Team Pre-Season All-America pick prior to the start of the 2008 season. She finished up her junior year earning First Team All-America accolades as well as being honored on the IWLCA Division II First Team All-North Region roster.
