Oakdale, NY- Kerri McCabe, head coach of
the Dowling Women's Soccer and Lacrosse teams, has been named the
Division II Women's Lacrosse Head Coach of the Year by
womenslacrosse.com for her role in leading Dowling's second-year
program to a 9-4 overall record in 2009.
Having been named the ECC Co-Coach of the Year earlier this year,
McCabe entered the 2009 campaign coming off an inaugural 2008
season in which she led her team to the ECAC Title, finishing with
a 10-5 overall record. This season she continued to impress
as her team went onto not only finish with another successful
record, but also tally wins against two nationally ranked opponents
including No. 4 Limestone College and No. 7 Stonehill
College.
Facing the third toughest schedule in the nation, McCabe also led
her team to its first national ranking when it took the No. 9 spot
on March 24. In addition to these achievements, McCabe had
five of her student-athletes receive ECC All-Conference honors,
including three members making the ECC All-Conference First
Team.
Off the field, Kerri and her team are constantly active in the
community as well, volunteering their time with the LI Blood
Services, Dowling's Annual Holiday Christmas Drive, Keep Islip
Clean, and the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Clothing Drive.
"Her (McCabe) achievements on the field and in the community is
evidence of her dedication and hard work that she instills onto her
student-athletes" said Vice President for Athletics and
Institutional Advancement, Rick Cole, Jr. "We are extremely proud
