
Carter, Fitzpatrick Earn Preseason Honors
Central Islip, N.Y. - The Adelphi University Panthers have been tabbed the 2009 favorite in the East Coast Conference Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches' Poll. C.W. Post earns the No. 2 spot and Dowling rounds out the top three.
Last year, the Panthers went a perfect 6-0 against conference opponents to claim the East Coast Conference title. They finished the season with a 16-1 record after falling to conference rival, C.W. Post, 9-4, in the National Semifinals. The Pioneers (17-2, 5-1 ECC) ended their 2008 season at the National Championships where they fell to West Chester, 13-12. The Golden Lions compiled a 10-5 overall record with a 3-3 mark in conference in their inaugural season.
Kaitlyn Carter of Adelphi has been named the 2009 Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Last season, Carter dominated the Panther offense with 48 goals and 15 assists. The All-American pitched in with 25 caused turnovers and scooped up 47 balls to help Adelphi to a 16-1 record.
Goalkeeper, Caitlin Fitzpatrick of Adelphi earns 2009 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors. Fitzpatrick ranked second in the conference in goals against average (6.84) and save percentage (.593) and boasted a 16-1 record last season.
