Washington, D.C. – The fourth-seeded Molloy women's basketball team topped the top-seeded St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans, 66-60, Saturday afternoon at the UDC Sports Complex.
How it Happened
- Ahead 8-7, the Lions went on an 8-0 run, led by three-points from graduate student Robyn Francis and junior Gabriella Aspuru, to make it 16-7.
- Molloy led 19-12 at the end of the first frame.
- STAC outscored the maroon and white 24-5 in the second quarter and led 36-24 at the half.
- The Lions started the third frame on a 9-0 rally, sparked by three points from Aspuru, to cut the Spartans' advantage to 36-33.
- Graduate student Kadijah Dickson hit a pair of free throws to knot the score at 38 with 4:07 left in the third quarter.
- STAC led 47-44 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
- Francis hit a triple to put Molloy ahead 54-51 with 5:12 left.
- Dickson made a layup to extend the maroon and white's advantage to 64-59 with 1:25 remaining en route to a 66-60 victory.
Top Performances
- Dickson tallied a game-high 21 points, to go along with eight rebounds, and five assists.
- Aspuru registered 16 points and grabbed six boards.
- Francis added 12 points in the win.
