Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The fourth-seeded Molloy College women's basketball team defeated the fifth-seeded Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks, 62-41, in the ECC First Round Wednesday evening at Quealy Gymnasium. The Lions improved to 21-8.
How it Happened
- The Lions jumped out to a 9-4 advantage, led by three points from junior Gabriella Aspuru.
- Roberts Wesleyan led 14-13 at the end of the first frame.
- The Redhawks took a 22-17 lead with 7:22 left in the second stanza.
- Junior Marthe Guirand tallied Molloy's final four points of the half, and the maroon and white trailed 27-26 at the break.
- The Lions outscored the visitors 20-6 in the third frame, sparked by nine points from graduate student Kadijah Dickson and six points from Guirand, and led 46-33 at the end of 30 minutes of play.
- Molloy started the fourth quarter on an 11-0 rally, sparked by four points from Guirand, en route to a 62-41.
Top Performances
- Guirand tallied a game-high 16 points, on 8-of-14 shooting, and eight rebounds.
- Dickson recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and five steals.
- Graduate student Robyn Francis netted nine points, and senior Jenna Silletti added eight points.
