Rowland Named USBWA Division II National Player of the Week

Madison Rowland of Queens (N.Y.) College was named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Women’s Division II National Player of the Week for the week ending December 4.

Rowland, a 5-10 senior guard/forward, was named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Player of the Week for the second straight week after averaging 25.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.5 steals in a pair of victories for the Knights last week.

Rowland opened the week with 25 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals in an 82-54 home win over Mercy on Wednesday and followed that up with 25 points and a career-best 20 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end, to go with five assists and six steals in a 72-61 win at NYIT on Saturday.

Rowland, who shot 55.3 percent from the field on the week, also surpassed 400 career steals, becoming just the third player in ECC history and the 22nd in NCAA Division II to accomplish the feat.

With her selection, Rowland becomes the second women's basketball student-athlete to earn the USBWA national honor since the award was created prior to the 2014-15 season. The previous ECC honoree was Rowland's sister, MacKenzie, who won the award the final week of the 2015-16 season.
