Huntsville, Ala. - Madison Rowland of Queens has been selected as the Division II Conference Commissioners Association 2017 Women’s Basketball Ron Lenz National Player of the Year, headlining the All-American teams that were announced on Monday. Voting for the teams was conducted by the NCAA Division II sports information directors from institutions and conference offices.
Rowland was joined on the first team by California Baptist’s Cassidy Mihalko, Laina Snyder of Ashland, Miki Glenn from California (Pa.), and Emporia State’s Kelly Moten.
Guiding her team to an Elite Eight appearance, Rowland is scoring 21.9 points per game which is the fifth-best mark in the country, and she is averaging a double-double with 10.3 rebounds per game to her credit. A senior from Albany, N.Y., Rowland has turned in 17 double-doubles and a triple-double on the year on her way to being named the D2CCA East Region Player of the Year and the ECC Player of the Year.
Rowland ranks in the top five all-time in Division II with 495 career steals, and her 2,332 career points is in the top 20 all-time in the Division II record books.
Mihalko has also guided her California Baptist team to the Elite Eight after being named the D2CCA West Region Player of the Year and the PacWest Player of the Year, and she is the PacWest’s all-time scorer with 2,167 points in part thanks to a scoring average of 19.7 points per game this season.
After garnering D2CCA Midwest Region Player of the Year and GLIAC Player of the Year status, Snyder has also helped lead Ashland to the Elite Eight, and she has averaged 16.8 points per game this season to rank fourth all-time at Ashland with 1,502 points in her career.
Glenn was named the D2CCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year after leading the PSAC in scoring and steals this season, and she is the only active Division II player – and the first-ever in the PSAC – to total 2,000 points, 500 assists, and 300 steals in a career.
Honored as the D2CCA Central Region Player of the Year and the MIAA Player of the Year,
Moten averaged 17.9 points per game and 4.4 assists per contest which ranked second in the MIAA while also ranking third in assist-to-turnover ratio, fourth in steals, and fifth in free throw percentage.
