Roberts Wesleyan Defeats Molloy in ECC Quarterfinal

Rochester, N.Y. – Roberts Wesleyan women's basketball picked up their first-ever East Coast Conference tournament win with a 54-38 triumph over Molloy in the second quarterfinal Wednesday evening.
 
Senior forward Samantha Courtney led all scorers with 20 points while earning the double-double after grabbing 13 rebounds for the Redhawks. Courtney also recorded two assists and a pair of blocked shots.
 
Leading 29-20 with four minutes remaining in the third quarter, the No. 4-seeded Redhawks put the game away by going on a 12-0 run that stretched for more than six minutes.
 
Both teams struggled to make their shots fall in the game as Roberts Wesleyan shot just 29.4 percent from the field as the visiting Lions ended the game at 23.1 percent. The two teams were a combined 5 of 42 from beyond the arc.
 
No other player for Roberts Wesleyan scored in double figures as Molloy's Kimani Jackson and Ally Leftridge scored 12 and 11 points respectively.
 
A trio of Redhawks scored seven points, including Taylor Bynoe, who grabbing 13 rebounds.
 
Roberts Wesleyan advances to the semifinals of the ECC Tournament at the District of Columbia where they will play top-seeded NYIT on Saturday at noon.
