Brent, Rowland, and Williams Earn Daktronics All-Region Praise

Philadelphia, Pa. - Three East Coast Conference women's basketball standouts were named to the Daktronics/Division II CCA Women's Basketball All-Region Team, announced on Friday afternoon. ECC Defensive Player of the Year, Denikka Brent of University of the District of Columbia, and ECC Player of the Year, Madison Rowland of Queens College, were First Team selections while LIU Post's Chelsea Williams earned a spot on the Second Team.

Brent helped the Firebirds to a program-record 25 wins, the ECC Regular Season Championship, and a spot in the NCAA Tournament with an outstanding all around season. The senior forward was third in the ECC in scoring with a 16.3 point per game average. She was also named the ECC Defensive Player of the Year after pulling down 7.8 rebounds per game and finishing second in the league with 75 steals.

Rowland earned the conference's Player of the Year award after ranking in the top-five in the ECC in numerous categories. She currently ranks second in the ECC with a 20.9 points per game average, fourth in field goal percentage (49.0)and rebounds per game (9.9), and third with 4.1 assists per game. Rowland also tops all of Division II with 120 steals and 4.3 steals per game.  In addition, she led the Knights to their second-ever ECC title and NCAA Tournament appearance, by winning the Most Outstanding Player of the ECC Championship award. Her 38 point, 13 rebound performance in the final helped Queens complete a late-comeback for a 65-63 victory over NYIT.

Williams earns a Second Team nod after leading the Pioneers and the ECC with 21.7 points per game. Her points per game total is the third highest single season total in conference history. In addition, the ECC First Team pick led the conference with 189 free throws made to move her to third on the ECC all-time list with 521 makes from the charity stripe in her career.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II East Region schools and conferences selected the Daktronics/Division II CCA All-Region teams. Brent and Rowland are now eligible to earn a spot on the All-American team, which will be selected and released later in the month.
