Three ECC Schools in Latest NCAA Women's Basketball Regional Rankings

Indianapolis, Ind. – Three East Coast Conference women's basketball teams have been ranked in the latest NCAA Division II Women's Basketball East Region poll released on Wednesday afternoon.

After four ECC teams were included last week, there was a little shakeup in the polls this week with two of the original four falling out and one new team joining the mix.

University of the District of Columbia is the highest rated ECC squad once again, maintaining their No. 4 ranking. The defending ECC Champions have clinched a first round bye and at least a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship. The Firebirds have now won 12 games in a row to move their record to 23-3 (16-2 ECC) on the year. UDC is attempting to earn their third NCAA Tournament bid in the four seasons.

Queens College jumps four spots this week to No. 5 in the poll. The Knights have won three straight and now have a 19-6 (14-4 ECC) mark on the season. Queens, who is looking to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since the 2008-2009 season, is one of two teams who is still alive for the second bye in the upcoming ECC Championship.

The other team who is still in the running to receive a bye into the ECC Championship semifinals, is Roberts Wesleyan who makes their debut in the poll at No. 10. Roberts Wesleyan is in their first season as a full Division II member and eligible to make the conference and NCAA tournaments. The Redhawks become the first-ever team from Roberts to make an NCAA East Region poll on the heels of a five-game winning streak to bring their record to 19-5 (14-4 ECC) for the 2014-15 campaign.

After being included in the poll a week ago, NYIT (No. 6) and LIU Post (No. 10) have fallen out this week.

After tying for the lead a week ago, the Northeast 10 Conference has the most teams in the poll with four. The ECC and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference both have three teams in the poll.

The regional rankings will be released weekly on Wednesdays through March 4. The top eight teams (three conference tournament champions and five at-large berths) in the poll after the conference championships will earn bids to the Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.
