Lilburn, Ga. - After a receiving votes in
the poll all season, the University of the District of Columbia
women's basketball team joined the national rankings, climbing to
the No. 22 spot in the latest USA Today Sports Women's Basketball
Division II Top 25 poll.
The Firebirds have been on a roll as of late, as winners of 12
games in a row. The winning streak moves their record to 23-3 on
the season. UDC has also clinched a bye into the semifinals of the
ECC Championship as they look to repeat as conference champions.
The Firebirds can also clinch their first ever ECC Regular Season
Championship with a win in one of their final two games this
week.
UDC entering the poll ends a season-long drought for the ECC in the
women's basketball national rankings. Before this week, the last
ECC squad to be in the rankings was LIU Post, who finished last
season ranked No. 25 after advancing to the NCAA East Region
Final.
